For General English we use the New English File programme. The original English File training programme was developed by the University of Oxford  and first published in 1996 as a  General English for Adults textbook and since then has been revised frequently. It is suitable for all students, including younger ones and has a wide range of support material that goes with it to provide extra practice if needed. The current edition is divided into six levels of difficulty (courses): Beginner (beginner), Elementary (simple), Pre-Intermediate (before intermediate), Intermediate (intermediate), Upper- Intermediate (above intermediate), Advanced (professional).

Each book takes about 45 hours to complete, depending on the group’s pace and whether or not additional exercises as needed. In other words, with two classes of two hours per week, mastering one course will take about 12 weeks.  At the end of each level there is a progress test that helps to identify any weak points that need work before moving on to the next level.

With dedication, starting from the elementary level,  a student could progress to a proficient user of the language in three years. Starting from higher up this would be quicker.

All students take an assessment test when enrolling for the programme and are placed in a class with similar level students. After that they attend the twelve week term.A standard course involves attending the college twice a week, plus doing homework. Lessons take place six days a week, during the day and in the evenings. Timetables vary depending on the number of students enrolled at each level.

Business courses are specialised for professionals and are suited to cover the needs of everyday work life.At the London College of English, our business courses can be combined with the regular language courses in order for you to gain extensive language skills alongside focused specialist career-orientated language to maximize your language skills. The classes are often made up of small groups of professionals.You can expect to cover everyday office related situations such as meetings, presentations, telephone conversations, small talk, negotiations, reports etc. in the course. The IELTS exam has become the world leader in both academic and immigration. Some countries accept nothing else.

In order to prepare you for the IELTS exam, the London College of English offers a twelve-week course, which gets you ready for all four parts of the exam (reading, listening, speaking and writing). You will practise these four parts using current test material and practice tests in a small group for maximum learning potential.

Individual Lessons

The school can also offer individual lessons for those who want something special or who need a little bit more. Individual lessons are tailored to the student and can be anything from short term help with a difficult to understand part of the General English course or English for a specific function such as business negotiations and can be arranged at times to suit the student.

Our Individual, One to One lessons are available at a cost of – 178,000 som per hour depending on the teacher’s availability. These can be booked through the centre management if you need them.
